Forming men and women for others is an essential goal of Jesuit ministry and an enduring tradition that dates back 450 years ago when St. Ignatius founded the Society of Jesus.
Please help us continue the Jesuit tradition!
With your prayers and financial support we Jesuits can educate students and provide spiritual formation to teachers, business and community leaders and encourage them to join us in our mission to build a more just and compassionate world.
Here are some of the ways my brother Jesuits put faith into action this past year:
- Fr. Phil Cooke, SJ, pastor of St. Agnes and Christ King Parishes on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota promotes job training. To address high unemployment on the reservation, Fr. Cooke collaborated with an inner city group from Kansas City to bring a job training program to the reservation. This joint venture enabled participants to acquire new skills and gain self-esteem.
- Frs. Tony Wach, SJ and Jim Strzok, SJ are diligently working alongside East African Jesuits and lay colleagues to open a secondary school for boys and girls: Ocer Campion Jesuit College. In addition to spiritual guidance, the school will offer a college prep curriculum as well as technical and agricultural training. Most importantly, children will have the opportunity to heal and move beyond the trauma of war and ethnic violence.
- Fr. John Naus, SJ, 85, travels five to seven days a week to the Marquette University Alumni Memorial Union. Even though he uses a wheelchair to get around, he meets with students and serves as the Union’s chaplain to staff and students. Bringing joy and laughter to others is of utmost importance to him.
The impact of your personal involvement in the Jesuit mission is immeasurably valuable to our seminarians as poignantly described in the words of Brian Taber, SJ: “Whenever I struggle, or feel alone or challenged or discouraged, I’m aware that there are many who are supporting my education, and praying for me and my ministry… I will know that through God’s grace, together we are accomplishing something of great value."
Encourage and inspire our seminarians and make a gift today!
God bless you for your friendship and generosity,
In Christ’s Peace,
Rev. Patrick J. Burns, SJ Assistant for Development
